Mahila Sangeet

Mahila Sangeet is the soul of any Indian wedding. The Sangeet ceremony also called Ladies Sangeet is one of the most enjoyable ceremonies before the wedding. Earlier it used to be exclusively for women (and so the name - Ladies Sangeet) but with changing times, men have an equal participation. The ceremony is held few days before the wedding. Friends and family start collecting 5-10 days before the ceremony and practice their solo/group performances. Mostly some talented dancers among the family help the rest preparing their dance songs. In other cases professional dance teachers are hired to choreograph the dances.
Preparations begin by choosing the right song for everyone. One of the most agonizing decisions, and then the practice sessions. These practice sessions is a time for joy and merriment for everyone amidst the hectic hustling bustling activities of marriage. Finally the day arrives and with the little practice you've done, you dazzle the audience as you move to the beat of your song. The programme consists of multiple dance numbers... folk songs dedicated to marriage and bride, top hindi dance numbers, songs describing the excitement of the bride and groom since the time they got engaged, and may be some emotional songs where the bride and her mother experience the pangs of separation from each other.
